In the run up to the Olympics I have had my fill of China bashing, which seems to be the main sport for some areas of the media.
Yes, China has human right issues, freedom of speech issues etc and whilst they are all valid issues for debate and coverage why do so many corners of the media, bandwagon campaigners and coverage hungry media whores have to do so in such a superior and condescending way? Tell me China's faults but don't suffix it with 'unlike us' and with a look of 'we're better than them' each time. Societies are rarely better than one another, just shit at different things.
There could be no greater hypocrite than President Bush and his recent speech.
Bush's criticism of China would have held more weight if
a) he could have delivered it without that simpleton smirk
b) he led by example and cleaned us his own backyard. Guantanamo Bay anyone?
As he sat watching the athletes arrive in today's opening ceremony I wonder how many times he thought 'wow, I thought that country was made up' or 'when's Narnia's team arriving?'
Now let's play games and not politics for a couple of weeks.
You're bang on - as always!
