Sunsilk have teamed up with Girls Aloud, the girl group borne of one of the reality talent shows a few years back now. They gone on to be very successful, good on them. They have all become preened to within an inch of their lives and one even reached the holy grail *angelic herald* of marrying a footballer.
So their glamorous persona is well fitted to sell shampoo. What better way to connect with young women and those all important tweenagers with whom they share so much, well a lack of body hair at least.
So here is the advert. If you watch it I think the creator is going for this story board.
1 Girls Aloud spot average girl with above average hair on the street
2 Girls Aloud take average girl and give her a makeover to become one of them
3 Newly made over girl can’t sing, in fact she sounds like a man. The hilarity.
4 So average girl is sent packing but with her wonderful new look it’s just a minute before a limo pulls up because Sunsilk makes things happen.
But I tend to see it more as
1 Girls Aloud spot a nicely turned out average girl with nice hair on the street
2 Girls Aloud give average girl a makeover so she too can look like a pneumatic tarty doll
3 Newly made over girl can’t sing – since when has this been an issue in girl and boy bands?
4 Regardless made over girl is put back on the street in her Girls Aloud outfit as another limo pulls up and I think it just cuts out before a dirty old tycoon leans out the window and asks how much for a hand job.
Okay so I don’t have a career in advertising ahead of me…or do I?
'Sounds of the underground' is pretty good though, isn't it? Hard to dance to though... Kind of intricate, in a weird way...
