Harry Enfield's comedy (especially Harry Enfield and Chums) have very fond memories for me and certainly shaped my ideal of the sketch show. So I couldn't wait to tune in last Friday for the first in a new series Ruddy Hell! It's Harry and Paul which reunited Harry with the wonderful Paul Whitehouse after a long break from our screens.
I'll admit to sitting down to watch with a sense of trepidation as it had a lot to live up to, not least subjective memory nostalgia. It stood up very well - certainly enough to have me tuning in tomorrow night (BBC1 9.30pm) and recommending you do the same. Paul Whitehouse has proven himself an amazing performer in a range of comic styles but as a sketch actor he is practically unsurpassed.
Last week's highlight for me was the Bono and Edge skit...
Of course Bono can end world poverty, he's certainly ended his own and I fully welcome a multi millionaire, who doesn't live in his own country for tax benefits, laying the guilt on we mere wage slaves with overdrafts . "Look at us being so humble" - Enfield and Whitehouse I tip my hat to you!
And I can't resist the nostalgia trip. From past sketches the pastiche of the 40s and 50s public information films remain one of my firm favourites and who can forget this one...
All very inspiring, which is what my writing needs at the moment!
Dont' forget: "Over-education for the woman leads to ugliness, premature aging and beard growth! Women, know your place!”. The dearly beloved still mutters those immortal words to me when I venture a strong opinion. He's joking, of course. At least, I think he is.

Thank you Beki for sharing that clip with us poor folk on the opposite side of the world :-)
Will have to show Mr M that one!
Was it me or did Harry Enfield as Bono look remarkable like Ozzy Osbourne when he took the big sunglasses off? LOL
