Well they are promising me snow again this week, I will wait and see. I am certainly not holding my breath.
The lack of snow, the budding flowers, scientists in Geneva, recycling my christmas tree and lawn cuttings - at the same time - has made me really wonder, and even panic a little about what the hell we have down to mother earth.
It is a very small gesture but this year I am making a concerted effort to recycle as much as possible (though as some people point out our current recycling efforts are a pointless piss in the ocean) and conserve energy better.
In Asda yesterday they were selling lovely strong shopping bags reduced from 70p each to 25p each, and raising money for Breast cancer research, so I bought some of them and will try to stop using plastic bags.
Stable doors and bolting horses it may prove to be but anyone else want to join me in becoming old shopping bag ladies?
Ooo, I didn't know Asda's did those bags. We use the Coles Green bags over here which sound like the Asda ones. They are really good and very strong and cost less than a $! Bargain! Only problem is, we often forget to take them with us when we go shopping D'oh! But on the plus side we now have about 8 of them, just need to put them to use.
And in the words of Tesco "every little helps"

I've been a bag lady for some time!! I can't remember the last time I used a plastic carrier. You can get so much more in propper shopping bags and they don't break. Like you I invested in a few of the Asda bags. You've just got to remember to take them with you or put them in the car after you've unpacked so they are ready for next time.

Came to your website via Andrew Collins'. Re your Snow Hopes. I was booking a train journey for tomorrow morning from London Euston to Edinburgh and they warned me that there might be delays due to the snow. So its looking increasingly likely. However, to show how wierd the weather is becoming, last Sunday I saw a moth at the window. I live in Scotland and it is far too early in the year for them. Sadly the cold will have probably killed it by now.
Congratulations on you sketches being aired.

What I would REALLY like, is one of those old woman shopping trolley bags to wheel my shopping around in. Not sure about the generic tartan look though... maybe there are some cooler ones on the market...
And yes - plenty o'snow planned by the sky gods, apparently.

I'm with Alice - I'm increasingly drawn towards the idea of a shopping trolley. Something in wicker perhaps.

Same here! Those forecasters are not to be trusted.

I've moved from Holland to the UK about 7 months ago, and one of the things that surprised me was the amount of plastic carrier bags people use. In Holland, you can buy what in Tesco's is called 'A bag for life', or extra strong ones, but the only free bags they have are the small see-through plastic ones that can't hold, well, anything really. As a result, everyone has their own bags, crates or grabs a cardboard box from packaging left for just that purpose. It's one of those tiny little mentality differences that still surprise me.

We use reusable ones from Wilkinsons - but also, the local shop where we get our veg takes plastic bags back, so when I collect a few, I drop them off there. AND, our local council has started a recycling program that will collect them from our door, so there are lots of options; I feel quite spoilt listening to some of my friends.
