I touched upon the unusual names people land their tots with before. And for some reason I always seem to meet, or rather get run down by, these little darlings in Asda. Last week's trip into Asda once again threw up a playmate for Tequila and Thespian.
Mace. In fairness this was a fair name as he belted into my ankles and brought tears to my eyes. Not a name I've heard of before though it does appear on some baby name lists I see. Personally, for the child in question I would have gone a step further if they so desired a unique moniker and called him Truncheon Nutmeg.
It just gets worse.

Mace - poor little bugger. Some of these parents ought to remember that the kid has to get through school life with the names they give them!

That's the sort of name you give a Staffordshire bull terrier or a rapper...

Hello - nice blog! Thanks for commenting on mine. I hate all those ridiculous children's names too - what's wrong with Jane or David, I ask you? My friend has two gorgeous wee girls called Maisie and Florence and even that is a bridge too far for me.
On another note, how are you enjoying Small Island? I read it a few months ago and have recommended it to loads of people - absolutely loved it.

Mace? Didn't that used to be a make of cooking oil? Poor kid, imagine going through life being called that.

There are some really bad names being used for kids these days, but Thespian really takes the biscuit!

You think that's bad?

Oh yes.
I love the Swedes: never an important political battle knowingly underestimated.

Yikes. There are some really awful names out there! I'm still snickering over "Thespian". ;-)

a "friend" of mine once received a card telling her that her cousin had had a baby.
"The name is Hieronymus, to be known as Hero"
I commented they should send him to school with a sign stuck to his back saying Kick Me

Someone told me about a little girl named Phallicia, pronounced like Felicia. What happened to nice names like April or Emily? Or Rebecca?

I often used to threaten to change Jack's name by deedpoll if he was being naughty. I actually went so far as to prepare a proper document which would have officially renamed him Trumpy Pumfritt if he'd ever been bad enough that I'd followed through with my threat and signed the thing.

Hey, my baby's called Trumpy Pumfritt!
Just kidding!
