Today we said our final goodbye to Zuzu.
Over the last 36hours she became very tired and withdrawn, and we knew it was time to let her go. This morning she came downstairs and walked across to Wilbur and gave him a little nose rub. She often liked to sit near Wilbur, they seemed to have an understanding of one another but I'd never seen them 'kiss' like that before. She then sat down quietly opposite him and for the first time, let out a little whimper before walking across and getting on my knee. I swear she knew.
The vet and his nurse kindly came to our home to put her to sleep in her own surroundings so it could be as stress free as possible. It was oddly calm. As the vet clipped her leg though she did have a cry out at which point I started to get distressed; then the strangest thing happened. Wilbur appeared from nowhere and attacked the nurse's bottom! For those who haven't 'met' Wilbur I will do a post about him, he is one of the worst cases we ever rescued. He is 14-15 if he is a day and has a Parkinsons like tremor, one of the most unique characters I have ever met (and I'm including humans in that.)
So as not to cause distress to Wilbur I took him out into the garden for a walk and had a good weep stood by the back window as I watched her slip peacefully away.
I do believe in the afterlife and as such believe there's a good line up of Hobbs' on the otherside, not least of all my great-Uncle Tom (great in all senses of the word). I am trying to think of it in the sense that it was time to rehome her to Uncle Tom.
Still, I am feeling incredibly flat and teary tonight.
I feel your pain, Beki, and I send a hug along with this message.
Rest peacefully, Zuzu, until we see you on the other side.

I'm having a little weep for you and Zuzu here. It never takes much to start me off, but that was plenty x

Beki, I am so very sorry for your loss. Big tears here from me to you. No matter how long they are with us, it is never, ever long enough. Safe crossings to the other side, ZuZu.

Deepest sympathies. The loss of a loved pet is always traumatic.

Such a terrible thing to experience I know from memory of having my beloved boxer dog Suki put to sleep. It hurts like hell. R.I.P ZUZU.

Oh Beki, I'm so sorry :-( Even when you know it is for the best, it is still incredibly painful to lose a pet. That is the one downside to letting them share your life, you know one day you will have to say goodbye.
Sending you a massive hug!

So very sorry to hear about beautiful Zuzu. I know how hard it is to lose a pet.
Make sure you give little Wilbur lots of attention... he’s probably feeling it too.
