There's an interesting storing on the BBC website about the National Library of Wales requesting any information people may have on Islwyn Roberts.
In 1958 Roberts set off on to hitch-hike around the world and little more is known about his adventure. Did he make it? Is he still out there? Perhaps he got as far as Dover and thought 'this is nice I'll stop here', or maybe it wasn't he got to Vienna or Istanbul or Shanghai that he thought he put down roots.
I often wonder about the stories behind old photographs. Looking around a stately home the other week there was a beautiful black and white photo of an Edwardian bride, but the curator said after years of research they still had no idea who she was or why the family had the photo. So often at antiques fairs you see piles of old photographs - people in their finery, their names now forgotten.
The photo in my possession which plays on my mind the most is this one of my grandad (2nd from the left) with an army colleague and 3 American GIs in World War II. I'm not even sure which country it was taken in. I often wonder if the other 4 on the photo made it.
I assume grand dad's "army colleague" is the other white guy wearing the same belt as grand dad. God Bless America.
