Last night we had the most perfect weather for an outdoor concert! We went to Kedleston Hall to see Il Divo - actually the second time I have seen them this year but being a picnic concert this had a totally different feel than the highly staged arena show.
I will be writing a 'proper' review about the show for BBC Derby and will link to that when it is live, in the meantime this is just a 'bring you up to date' blog post!
I love outdoor concerts and especially ones in the ground of stately homes which are another love of mine. In all last night had all the right ingrediants for a lazing Sunday evening, good food, beautiful location, nice weather and a great band.
A word about Hayley Westenra - what a fanastic voice the young New Zealander has. You can't help but think back to Charlotte Church....before she got all dirty ;o).
There was certainly a core of very, ahem, passionate Il Divo fans (and another ahem) of a certain age. You could almost sense the collective strain of tena ladies as Il Divo took to the stage. Some will no doubt appear in an ITV documentary 'When HRT Goes Bad'. I mean fair dues to them for enjoying the band but we were talking about banners and swooning like ye olde days of boy bands. There used to be a joke, whats got 100 legs and no pubic hair? The front row of a Take That concert. What's got 100 legs, 4 plastic hips, 50 hot flushes etc etc! But hey, they had a good time so if you can't beat them...
I went down to the front one to be nosey and two to try and get some decent-ish shots to send in with my review. Here's my photo album from the evening. After I used the memory card up I retreated to the relative sanity further back and parked myself in a camp chair and enjoyed the picnic hamper feast.
The band put on a great show, there is simply no denying the quality of their voices even if the overall package isn't your cup of tea. Personally I love it. Yes I know I am eclectic, I adore my Cradle of Filth but even an old metalhead like myself has to mellow now and then! It takes all sorts to make the world go round, and I am all sorts!
It's not really my thing but quality shines out whatever the genre.
Good-looking, Italian and with voices like that - they stand to make a fortune. And good luck to 'em!
I'm sure Hayley Westenra is here for the long run too. Great voice, as you say, very pretty and whenever I've seen her interviewed she comes across as a very nice girl.
*leaves quietly, preoccupied by the thought of Charlotte Church "all dirty".*
