Drama - Radio
This week sees a re-run of Baldi on BBC 7. Tune in to hear a murder-mystery series which stands out for the superb performance of David Threlfall. Series one is being broadcast Mon-Fri at 1pm this week (24th April 06) but thanks to listen again you can get it on demand for the week afterwards.
Threlfall plays a Franciscan priest who is on sabbatical to teach philosophy at an Irish University. The shy and thoughtful priest soon proves to be somewhat of an amateur sleuth, joining forces with Garda detective Tina Mohan with whom there is an undoubted chemistry. Threlfall's portrayal of Baldi is so delicate, it's hard to comprehend he also brings us the far from refined Frank Gallagher in Shameless!
Comedy - Radio
This afternoon I heard, for the first time, Lee Mack's Radio 2 show, a repeat of his '21st Century Variety Show' and it definitely raised a titter, especially his 'interview' with Midge Ure - I liked his use of Ultravox's intro to Vienna but won't spoil the gag for you.
Aspects of guest Mick Miller's turn sat rather uncomfortable at times and felt dated but the sketch sections in which he took part were light and pacey. You've got till 10pm on Thursday to listen to it this episode via listen again, to see if you agree me. The rest of the run will be on each Thursday at 10pm until 18th May with the opportunity to listen again for one week afterwards. I'll be tuning in.
Humour highlight of the week:
I read Prince Edward was planning a series of satirical sketches for the Queen's birthday party. I bet that was a riot (oh heck, I've set off the sarcasm alarm again)
